MID 1800'S
BLACK and WHITE PHOTO RESTORATION

Many early images are actually painted or drawn. The 2 images below were scanned from a family tree book.

Scans from print media deposit a pattern of dots called, "Moire". Take a look at a newspaper under a magnifying glass and you'll see these same patterns.

Unusual requests are our challenge! The moire pattern was fused, and restoration preformed, resulting in the photos below..

MID 1860'S
BLACK and WHITE PHOTO RESTORATION
before or around the Civil War

Her name was Amanda Gibbons Jackson - born about 1823 in Kentucky - Marrried Emsley Jackson on Nov. 23, 1841 in Morgan Co. Illinois. His father was one of the founders of Jacksonville, Illinois...some claim that it is his father for which the town was named. I assume the picture was taken in the Jacksonville Illinois area - sometime before or around the Civil War.

Several techniques were used to complement
this visual history. Extracting the background
and replacing that backdrop
with a period curtain, numerous filters
and the sheer enjoyment of
preserving history.

This photo of Amanda, born about 1823 in Kentucky, was taken in the Jacksonville, Illinois area - sometime before or around the... Civil War.As you can see the photo restoration will be extensive. FAMILY TREE PHOTO OF GRANDFATHERS BAND IN COLUMBIA, SOUTH AMERICA CIRCA 1921.

What to give for that special family gift?
That was the question. After weighing many ideas we presented the daughter with the idea of including all of the men in the immediate family under the main restoration forming a generational family tree. The daughter found pictures of her father, brother and nephew and we extracted the grandfather’s picture from the main image. After repairing the photos, the images were cropped into ovals and the edges faded. We added the dates as best as possible and made each recipient a framed copy for that really special gift that will be around for many years to come.

Actual dimensions: 8 x 10 inches.

After resizing this would also make a wonderful Christmas card in 2009.
